How we help

individual psychoTHERApY

Commonly referred to as talk therapy, individual psychotherapy is a one-on-one therapeutic relationship with a psychotherapist centered around working collaboratively to support the client in reaching their goals and working towards a reduction in symptoms. Individual psychotherapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for a range of presenting concerns or issues and can help improve self-esteem, mood and well-being.

We are happy to connect for a free initial 15 minute phone consultation to learn more about your concerns and how we can most be helpful, answer any questions you may have about online therapy and discuss scheduling for appointments.

online counseling

From the comfort of your own space, online therapy sessions offer a convenient and confidential way to get the support you’ve been thinking about. Online therapy works great for students, athletes or busy working professionals who want to get support that fits in with their busy schedules and eliminates the additional time and frustrations of what goes down before and after an in-office appointment. Online therapy can also allow us to work together as long as you are currently living and attending the online session in Virginia. Whether you’re a local student at a Virginia school, college student needing to find a therapist while attending school in Virginia, or a busy working professional needing one less commute to get to and from in Virginia, online therapy may be a fit for you.

APPROACH

EVIDENCED BASED INTERVENTIONS

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on identifying and changing destructive or maladaptive thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior and emotions. These negative automatic thoughts can contribute to and worsen emotional difficulties, depression, and anxiety. Through psychotherapy, we support clients in working on identifying, challenging and replacing these negative thoughts with more objective, realistic thoughts.

Integrative Therapy

The main emphasis of integrative psychotherapy is on the individual characteristics of the person and on the therapeutic relationship. The approach allows the therapist to adapt the therapy to the unique characteristics and needs of each client by allowing the therapist to tailor their knowledge of several evidence-based treatments and approaches.

Play Therapy

We help children with concerns related to anger, flexibility, perfectionism, and help kids work through “big feelings.”

Play therapy encompasses several treatment methods where the goal is to help clients identify and work through problems and builds on the natural way that children learn about themselves and their relationships in the world around them. Through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others. Play provides a safe psychological distance from their problems and allows expression of thoughts and feelings appropriate to their development. ¹
